The Jerusalem Music Centre, Mishkenot Sha'ananim
Need: In order for Jerusalem to serve as an international city of culture, it must offer arts training and classic performances of the highest caliber.
Response: The Jerusalem Music Centre (JMC), located right beyond the Old City Walls, provides high-quality instruction to young musicians from all over Israel, and provides classical music concerts that are enjoyed by Jerusalem residents, as well as visitors. Renowned musician Murray Perahia serves as President of the JMC and the Centre is also home to the world-renowned Young Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, an ensemble of Israel’s most talented young classic musicians.
Population Served: Musicians from around the country and around the world benefit from the JMC’s courses, summer intensives, and master-classes. Jerusalem residents and tourists alike benefit from the wide array of concerts and performances of classical music that the JMC provides.
Impact: The JMC’s role as a respected music center helps establish Jerusalem as a thriving city of arts and culture; young musicians from around the country are drawn to Jerusalem to participate in the JMC’s different programs, especially its Goldman Scholarship Programme and the Young Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
