Jerusalem Jewish Film Festival Opens

Jerusalem’S Jewish Film Festival Is Back In 2016

Jerusalem Jewish Film Festival Opens

The Jerusalem Film Festival opened on December 24 with the film “Denial”, based on a true story: The movie chronicles Dr. Deborah Lipstadt’s defense against Holocaust denier David Irving, who sued her for defamation after she named him as a Holocaust denier in one of her books. The movie itself was riveting, with a magnificent performance by Rachel Weisz in the lead role.  A major highlight was the speech by Dr. Deborah Lipstadt, who flew in to Jerusalem to participate in the festival. Dr. Lipstadt said that one of the best parts of the movie was getting to tell her story around the world, and that she was especially honored to be able to present the movie in Jerusalem and to have it open the Jewish Film Festival. She explained that the movie, being a movie about truth, stuck closely to the true story it was based on, and spoke of the importance of facts. She received an enthusiastic round of applause from the audience, in recognition of her important work in the field of Holocaust history.

The Jerusalem Jewish Film Festival continues to bring leading Jewish figures and films dealing with issues of Jewish identity and history from around the world to Jerusalem, contributing to the city’s development as a thriving cultural center. The Jerusalem Foundation is proud to support the Festival, as part of its ongoing efforts to shape the city as a modern, vibrant metropolis.
