Ubu Roi Reigns On Stage

What didn’t succeed in Paris more than 120 years ago, succeeds in Jerusalem.

In 1896, Ubu Roi, a French comedic piece parodied the Shakesperean classic, Macbeth.  The  scandalous performance opened and closed in Paris the very same night. Not a very long run.

Ubu Roi reigns on stage in Jerusalem in a production by Nisan Nativ Acting Studio. Their  rendition, performed by students, was perhaps slightly less offensive, yet maintained the humor and physical comedy of the original, in a play that was part translation, part homage.

The crowd slowly warmed to the performance as the fine acting skills and creative staging allowed one to forget that this was a student performance.

The play will be performed for the final time in Jerusalem tomorrow night, and is highly recommended. For more information, click here.
