Jazz in Jerusalem

Jazz: If you’re an old-fashioned person like me, you probably think of Ella Fitzgerald or Louis Armstrong. But Shalosh, whose name means “Three” in Hebrew, a group of three (surprise!) young jazz musicians playing a piano, a drum set and a double-bass, rely took me by surprise.

Their piece “Meditations” made me feel like I was a raindrop rolling down a window during a lazy Sunday afternoon; their piece about the “love-story” between a duo of working men who argue on a daily basis in Tel Aviv managed to be funny and sad at the same time. The location, in the basement of Hamazkeka, the colorful club/bar/concert hall on Koresh Street, made me feel like I was back in New York, at some jazz club, hearing the band that would go on to be the next big hit.

Also, make sure to check out Hamazekak’s Zikuk 3 Festival on August 9-11, which is sponsored by the Jerusalem Foundation!
