Deena had many passions and talents, but her genius was the particular way she connected with others: with attention, kindness, and generosity. She was magic with children. If you were one of Deenie’s kids, you were a lucky kid. And, every kid could be Deenie’s kid – cuddling, talking, reading, laughing with their adoring “Auntie”.

Deena grew up in a large, close Labour Zionist family in Toronto, Canada. After studying at the University of Toronto and working in the family business, she made the courageous decision to leave her life, friends, and family to make aliyah in 1984. She settled in Jerusalem, a city she loved dearly. She was an enthusiastic walker and passionate biker through the city streets and the trails of the glorious surrounding hills. Deena became a tour guide, and then, in the mid 1990's, she travelled to Paris, the UK, and China to study Acupuncture, a healing art she practiced with dedication and skill.  With the years, Deena became a respected expert of Chinese language medicine and culture.

Deena also devoted herself to Yoga and made it a way of life. She practiced daily and loved teaching it, especially to children.  

In 2012, Deena and her soulmate Tosh celebrated their love by bringing families and friends together from Israel, Canada, and England. On that special occasion, they organized a visit to Masada, to the desert tunnels, and an experience in the sights, sounds, and tastes of their city. The culmination of this unforgettable time was the joyous wedding of our beloved Deena and Tosh at the Sephardi Synagogue at Yemin Moshe, in the heart of  Jerusalem.

For Deena, family were friends and friends were family. Deena's Canadian and Israeli friends and family have come together to dedicate this space where children read, learn, and explore as a fitting tribute to her cherished memory.
