About the project
Dental Volunteers for Israel is a not-for-profit organization established in 1979 that provides free dental treatment and preventive care to Jerusalem’s underprivileged children and elderly. The organization, which was founded by Holocaust survivor Trudi Birger and is the only one of its kind in Israel, operates a clinic that was founded in 1980 and is staffed by volunteer dentists from around the world. The dentists leave their practices for one-four weeks at a time to travel at their own expense to Jerusalem, where they are provided with free housing. By 2001, more than 2,500 professionals from 13 countries had volunteered at the clinic. The Jerusalem Foundation has supported the purchase of equipment for the organization.
