About the project
Bridge of Light is a teak and stainless steel sculpture by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa erected near the Montefiore Windmill in 2002. The sculpture sends a beam of light several hundred meters into the air. Plensa (b. 1955) has said of the piece: “The sculpture, in the heart of Jerusalem, represents a meeting point between people gathered around a source of energy that creates a vertical line like a cloud of light, that represents a bridge between heaven and earth.”
