About the project

A kindergarten at 47 Ben Eli’ezer Street is one of several kindergartens located adjacent to an absorption center for new immigrants in Gilo Alef. The majority of children attending the kindergarten in the early 1990s were children of immigrants from the former Soviet Union. The Jerusalem Foundation provided equipment and supported special activities at the kindergarten to help ease the children’s transition into Israeli society and supported extended hours to enable parents to attend ulpan (Hebrew language immersion programs), look for work and more. The kindergarten continues to serve children of new immigrants living in the absorption center.
