About the project
Bat Melech (Daughter of Royalty) was established in 1996 to meet the particular needs of abused women from the ultra-Orthodox community. The organization operated sheltered apartments for four years before establishing the first and only shelter exclusively for religious battered women in Israel. The shelter provides a safe, supportive and nurturing refuge for up to seven women and their children and provides professional counseling and legal support to help them recover from their experiences. In addition to the shelter, Bat Melech runs two transitional apartments. The Jerusalem Foundation has provided equipment such as washing machines to the shelter and has supported activities including a summer camp program for children.
