About the project
The Jerusalem Foundation has undertaken several projects over the years to light Jerusalem’s major historical sites and buildings. The Old City walls, several churches and the Jerusalem International YMCA were lit in 1972. The Old City walls were furthered lit in 1985. Additional lighting projects were undertaken in honor of the city’s 3000th anniversary in 1997, when Roland Jeol, an international lighting expert from France, developed the lighting schemes for Damascus Gate, Efthymios (Muristan) Square, St. Mark’s Syrian Church and other sites.
