About the project

Etgarim (Challenges), the Israel Outdoor Sports & Recreation Association for the Disabled, is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1995 by a group of disabled veterans of the Israel Defense Forces, disabled civilians, and rehabilitation professionals to provide adventure and wilderness activities for disabled children. The organization primarily works with special needs schools to bring children with disabilities ranging from attention deficit disorder to hearing impairments and cerebral palsy on challenging physical outdoor activities such as cycling, rock climbing and rappelling. These activities, which are usually inaccessible to the disabled, stimulate their senses, build their self-confidence, and provide them with fun group activities. The Jerusalem Foundation began supporting Etgarim’s work with eight special education schools in Jerusalem and more than 200 children in 2003.
