About the project
The Jerusalem Foundation supported an initiative of the municipality beginning in 1990 to help kindergarten children from disadvantaged homes prepare for first grade, when they enter the public elementary school system. Approximately 150 children participated in the program annually in the schools in which they were registered to begin first grade in order to narrow learning gaps, improve social skills and involve parents. The children also attended theater performances especially created to promote readiness for first grade.
