About the project
THE TROPICAL CONSERVATORY, Donated by Florence Dworsky in 1986. It displays various groups of plants that have adapted themselves to tropical conditions and have developed unique survival tactics. Many of these adaptations assist in overcoming the deficiency of light that is typical of the rain forest
environment that many of these type of plants come from. The Orchid is one such plant. The Orchidaceae family is particularly large, despite the differences of color and size, all of the species have the same basic petal structure. Another group of plants that fascinate are the carnivores, or rather insectivores, insectivorous plants grow in soil low in nitrogen, they have the ability to attract small insects, catching them by various and ingenious ways before digesting them.
