About the project
Elwyn Inc., founded in 1852, is America’s oldest organization serving the disabled. Israel Elwyn, the first Elwyn affiliate outside the US, was established in 1984. Israel Elwyn works to help 1,500 children and adults with special needs to lead independent lives by providing independent living options and educational and employment programs at various locations in Israel, including dozens in Jerusalem. The Jerusalem Foundation has supported several Israel Elwyn programs, including employment training, dental care and purchase of a van. It also has supported the construction or furnishing of four facilities: Beit Joanna and the Katie Manson Sensory Garden located on the Israel Elwyn Jerusalem campus (the former Swedish Village, an institution for the care of the disabled founded in 1948), the Elwyn El-Quds Child Development Center in Wadi el-Joz and the Dvora Agmon Preschool Development Center in Ge’ula.
