About the project
Lekach (Lesson), the Ultra-Orthodox Training Center in Jerusalem, was established in 2000 to provide employment training for the ultra-Orthodox community. The center has conducted courses for sports instructors, dance teachers, librarians, community center professionals and photographers, all within a frameork consistent with the beliefs and practices of ultra-Orthodox Jews. In 2005, the Jerusalem Foundation supported the center’s tour guide course to help train ultra-Orthodox men to meet the special needs of the increasing number of ultra-Orthodox tourists to the city and to develop employment opportunities for the city’s ultra-Orthodox male population, approximately 60% of which was unemployed in 2005. The program was run in conjunction with Yad Yitzhak Ben-Zvi Institute and the City of David Project.
