About the project
Meitarim is an organization founded in 1999 to create a new stream of Jewish public education to combat the present two-track system that segregates religious and secular students socially and educationally from an early age. Meitarim has helped establish co-educational, religiously pluralistic schools throughout Israel in which students from different backgrounds learn together about their common Jewish heritage in a non-coercive environment. Children are taught values such as Jewish peoplehood, tolerance, and humanism and receive an education where there is no contradiction between Judaism, pluralism, and democracy. The Re’ut School in Jerusalem is part of the Meitarim system.
