About the project
The Schechter Institute of Jewish Studies is an institution of advanced Jewish learning established in 1984 and affiliated with the Jewish Theological Seminary of America and the Masorti (Conservative) Movement of Israel. The institute serves as home to a graduate school, the Schechter Rabbinical Seminary, the TALI Educational Fund (a program of enriched Jewish studies in the public school system), and Midreshet Yerushalayim (an organization that enhances Jewish learning for immigrants from the former Soviet Union.) The Jerusalem Foundation supported an architectural competition and preliminary design work for the planning of a new campus for the institute, which had outgrown its original, modest facility. Ground was broken for the new campus in 2006.
