About the project
The Segev (a Hebrew acronym for Keep Your Body Healthy) School Health Education Program was carried out by the municipality’s Department of Public Health over several years to teach children about prevention of cardiovascular disease. The study included 1400 Jewish and Arab children in 16 schools and resulted in measurably improved health as well as positive changes in knowledge and attitude toward diet, exercise and more. By the 1986-87 school year, the program was introduced to another 80 Jerusalem schools as well as schools in Tel Aviv, Haifa and elsewhere.
