About the project
Shalhevet is a Jerusalem-based organization that works to enable the disabled to live independent lives in non-institutional settings within the community. The organization was founded by Miriam Freier, who also serves as a teacher at the Shema Kolenu Center for Hearing Impaired Children. The organization provides support services, including meals, physical treatments, volunteer companions and financial assistance. It also organizes trips, holiday celebrations and other entertainment to help the disabled live the most normal lives possible. Shalhevet established a home with a caretaker in the Rasco neighborhood, for which the Jerusalem Foundation provided elevators in 2007.
