About the project
The Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI) was founded in 1953 to increase public awareness of nature and environmental protection in Israel. Since then, it has become Israel’s largest environmental organization, offering a broad-based program of education, conservation, research and public action involving more than 1 million people annually. SPNI operates 26 field study centers, 33 branch and community centers, hundreds of youth clubs and teacher training programs, and has more than 100,000 members.The Jerusalem Foundation has supported the purchase of hiking equipment for school trips and several of SPNI’s community empowerment programs in Jerusalem.
