About the project
The “Speaking Art” two day annual conference at the YMCA brings together professional Arab and Jewish members of the performing arts to take part in various workshops on theater, music, dance and movement . The emphasis is put on honing the senses, listening and hearing, that which is spoken as well as nonverbal body language, and being comfortable with that which is different, connecting through culture on a more intimate human level. In fact, during the contact improvisation workshop, dance troupes explore weight sharing and counter balancing, they were forbidden to speak during the exersise, relying on body language to convey their message. Participants come from all over Israel including the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The end of the conference is always marked with a final performance by guest musicians, David D’or, Lubna Salame, David Broza & Ibrahim Eid, to name but a few.
