About the project
The Stern Street Youth Club was created by renovating the basement of an apartment building that is part of the large housing projects on Stern Street in Kiryat Hayovel. The club was run by neighborhood youth under the supervision of the Sally & Philip W. Lown Youth & Community Center and with volunteer counselors from Hebrew University. When opened in 1980, 35 children participated everyday in afterschool activities, including homework help, sports and arts and crafts. In the evenings, teenagers used the club for lectures, community theater projects and socializing.
