About the project
The Streetball Tournament is held annually in Liberty Bell Garden. It brings together Jewish-Arab basketball teams to compete together and against each other in a friendly sportsmanlike atmosphere. Participants are aged between 14-16, 16-18, and men over 18, as well as a women’s team. The teams of 3-3 in each category play each other, with the best two teams playing for the championship. Since the tournament has become an annual event, it has become more effective in reaching its goal of bringing Arab and Jewish youth together, breaking down barriers, and breaking through the stereotyped ideas they have of each other. Their common interest in basketball is a catalyst that opens a window for communication. In 2008, the first day of the tournament featured a “Dialogue Tent” with workshops sponsored by the ADL. Later in the evening films that had been prepared by the Jerusalem Cinematheque’s summer video workshop for Jewish and Arab Youth were shown.
