About the project
Theatre Company Jerusalem was founded in 1982 by Gabriella Lev, Aliza Elyon-Israeli, Ruth Wieder-Magan and Joyce Miller to develop an art form that would give contemporary theatrical expression to ancient Jewish sources. The company creates a unique art form that merges traditional Jewish text study with theatrical and musical performance, with particular attention given to the voice of the woman, which is largely silent in traditional Jewish texts. The company also integrates theater arts with educational activities using techniques of communication, writing, movement and voice. Theater Company Jerusalem has produced more than twenty productions, which it has performed in Israel and abroad in Hebrew and English.
