About the project
The Jerusalem Print Workshop is Israel’s leading printmaking studio, a center for the production of etchings, lithographs, silk screens and woodcuts.The workshop was founded in 1974 by Arik Kilemnik, former head of the print department of the Bezalel Academy of Art’s Department of Fine Arts. Over the years, thousands of artists from all over Israel have come to the workshop to receive technical assistance, materials and other help needed to realize their work.The workshop has hosted internationally acclaimed artists including Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein and Alexander Calder.The workshop commissions prints, publishes books, produces exhibitions, offers workshops and features the largest print and artist’s book collection in the country. The Jerusalem Foundation has supported projects to improve the workshop facility, which is located in the two upper floors of an Ottoman building, with characteristic stone-tiled floors and vaulted ceilings. In 1981, it undertook renovations and dedicated the workshop as the Florence Miller Art Center-Jerusalem Print Workshop. In 1996, it assisted the workshop in purchasing and renovating its facility and rededicated it as the Jerusalem Print Workshop-Bernard & Barbro Osher Art Center. In 2006, the Foundation began another major project to enable the workshop to purchase the facility’s ground floor to enable it to expand. The Foundation also has supported activities at the workshop, including exhibits, new immigrant artist programs and courses for students from the Jerusalem School of Photography, School of Visual Theater and other Jerusalem art schools. The workshop is one of several institutions the Foundation has supported to stimulate cultural life in the Musrara neighborhood.
