About the project
The Jerusalem Intercultural Center was founded in 1999 as a joint venture of the Jerusalem Foundation, the municipality, the Joint Distribution Committee Israel, the Israel Association of Community Centers, the Jerusalem Institute for Israel Studies, and Besod Siach (an organization that facilitates inter-group dialogue) to meet community needs amidst cultural, religious, and ethnic tensions. The center seeks to build an infrastructure for dialogue among Jerusalem’s many cultural groups that will enable them to influence the public agenda, to deepen public discussion about the rights and needs of the various groups, to create a consensual basis for solidarity among the city’s residents, and to take advantage of the multicultural fabric of Jerusalem as a resource for enrichment.The center supports communal initiatives that grapple with intercultural conflict, efforts that promote consensus among political, intellectual, and spiritual leaders, and cooperation and dialogue among organizations active in the field of intercultural conflict management. The center, originally located in the Morasha Community Center, relocated to the former Rose House and Jerusalem Center for Visual Arts in 2007.
