About the project
Art Focus is a project to give international and broad public exposure to contemporary Israeli art. The project has included visits by foreign museum directors, curators, art critics and dealers to meet with artists and Israeli art professionals, and a bi-ennial, month-long series of special exhibits and related events at Israeli museums, cultural centers, galleries and alternative spaces. In its first year, some 800 artists participated in approximately 100 exhibitions at nearly 80 venues throughout the country. The endeavor is a collaboration of many organizations, including the National Council for Culture and Art, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Israeli Government Tourist Corporation, ALMA (Business for the Arts), Mishkenot Sha’ananim, the Jerusalem Center for Visual Arts and the Jerusalem Foundation. The Jerusalem Foundation has supported exhibits held in Jerusalem at venues including the Merrill Hassenfeld Amphitheater and Teddy Stadium.
