About the project
Adjacent to Beit Safafa in Jerusalem’s southern neighbourhood of Sharafat, Beit Arz is an emergency home for approximately 10 at-risk children of pre-school age (2 to 6 years) from the Arab community of Jerusalem, the only institution of its kind serving this population. It is the first stop after the court has ordered the children removed from their homes for reasons such as severe neglect, physical or sexual violence and abuse or parental alienation resulting from complex family situations such as divorce or addiction. A significant portion of the children currently living at Beit Arz previously lived with dysfunctional foster families.
This safe and supervised framework provides the children with a temporary caring environment, safeguarding their physical, emotional and educational development. Beit Arz is part of the network of institutions providing Arab sector vulnerable populations educational and welfare infrastructure that are managed by the Arafad organisation.
