About the project

The Belle Rothenberg Children’s Club was created to serve underprivileged children in the Talpiot neighborhood, specifically those living in the housing projects on Hebron Road. Also called the Ten Kavod (Give Respect) Club, it provided space for approximately 50 children in grades 1-6 to play and participate in organized after school activities. Staff worked to detect and address social and emotional problems, to build self-esteem, to develop communication skills and to provide homework help for the children. Activities at the center included handicrafts, an environmental program and creation of a newspaper. The club, located at 146 Hebron Road, later was converted to a kindergarten facility.
