About the project
Beterem, the National Center for Children’s Health and Safety, is the only organization dealing exclusively with child safety in Israel. Beterem was founded in 1995 by Prof. Yehuda Danon, founding director of the Schneider Children’s Medical Center and former surgeon general, and Dr. Michal Hemo-Lotem, a pediatrician. The organization works out of five main hospitals and with various local partners to increase public awareness of child safety issues, to teach parents and children safe practices, to improve physical environments, and
to enact and enforce safety standards. The Jerusalem Foundation has supported a program run by Beterem to teach accident prevention in mother & child care centers in east Jerusalem and the establishment of Beterem’s center at Hadassah Hospital – Mount Scopus.
