About the project

The Center for the Diagnosis & Rehabilitation of the Homeless was established in 1996 to provide temporary accommodation and ongoing treatment to the homeless. The center is operated by the not-for-profit association Shekel (Community Services for the Disabled) in cooperation with the municipal Department of Welfare. It provides social workers, psychiatrists and other staff to assess the situations of homeless individuals and, when appropriate, to house them and to begin rehabilitative services at its facility in Rechavia. The Jerusalem Foundation supported establishment of the center, which was created by renovating an apartment building to accommodate15 residents at a time.
