About the project
The Jerusalem Foundation undertook a major effort in 2001 to support health services for residents of east Jerusalem. The program’s primary focus was health education and preventive medicine, with which the city’s Arab residents have had limited experience. Health education projects were undertaken in schools and community centers, dental care was provided for children, and pioneer programs were initiated to detect, prevent and treat diseases including colon cancer and genetic disorders such as Krabbe’s disease, a prevalent cause of infant mortality in the Arab community. Many projects were undertaken at the Sheikh Jarrach Medical Center and Hadassah Hospital – Mount Scopus.
