About the project

“Helping the Helpers” is a project that looks behind the scenes to those who provide frontline community services, and is a project that empowers any community to become pro-active, volunteering support to any one or more of the emergency services protecting and serving the community .
Providing workshops to improve communication between the different emergency services, and the efficient use of volunteer groups, building confidence, trust and a cohesive working atmosphere to benefit all.
Between 2003 and 2004 Community Emergency Centers (CEC) were established in 21 community centers throughout the City.
Each project coordinator clarifying his CEC working methods and presenting an overall emergency plan to a specially formed forum consisting of representatives from the police and fire departments, homefront and hospitals, evaluating and sharing experiences and setting out a plan to enroll and train volunteers.
At Hadassah Mount Scopus, multi-diciplanary workshops and retreats cope with behavior caused by stress and trauma. Other workshops deal with “Building Bridges”, relationships, cultural and language differences in a multi-ethic society. “Helping the Helpers” project is active in both Hadassah Ein Kerem and Hadassah Mount Scopus hospitals, the latter providing services to East Jerusalem and the surrounding communities.
