About the project

Corob Gardens is an archeological garden created at the end of Corob Walk opposite St. Louis Hospital. After the expulsion of the Crusaders during the Ayyubid period (1187-1250), a moat was constructed in this area, between a tower above, near the present-day Zahal Square, and the Old City below. The Corob Gardens were designed by landscape architect Jeremy Epstein to retain the geological and archeological evidence of the moat area, including an extant section of an outer Ayyubid wall, while providing walking paths, lawns, benches and landscaping. The garden underwent renovation as part of the adjacent Zahal Square redesign project in 2007.
