About the project
Elem, Youth in Distress in Israel, is an organization that helps runaways, homeless and neglected youth in distress. The organization provides treatment and rehabilitation services, disseminates information about effective intervention and advances public awareness of the various problems concerning youth at risk and in distress. Elem opened its first community-based hostel in 1982. Since then, it has developed into a national organization operating hostels, providing counseling services, drug rehabilitation programs and more in 29 locations throughout the country. The Jerusalem Foundation has supported the organization’s counseling, vocational training and immigrant youth programs, as well as the Beit Ari’el Hostel for Girls in Distress.
