About the project
Ilan, the Israel Foundation for Handicapped Children, is one of Israel’s oldest voluntary organizations. It was founded in 1952 to assist children affected by polio and their families. It later expanded its area of activities to include children and adults with disabilities related to muscle and nerve damage such as cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy. Ilan operates a network of 32 treatment and rehabilitation centers. Its Jerusalem facilities include Beit Tamar, the Ilan Residential Home for Handicapped Young Adults, the Harry & Abe Sherman (Ilanot) School and an occupational training center. The Jerusalem Foundation has provided support for various Ilan activities over the years, including an emergency hot-line, in-house care and social activities.
