About the project

The Rubin Academy of Music & Dance was founded in 1958 to provide instruction in music and dance to children and young adults. The academy is comprised of three institutions: the conservatory provides after school instruction in music and dance for ages 5-18; the high school serves talented teenagers who want music or dance to be their major field of study, and the academy provides professional-level training culminating in an academic degree. Over the years, the Jerusalem Foundation has supported the purchase of instruments, maintenance and scholarships, including the Drubin Scholarship, the Arthur Lourie Scholarship, the J. Darwin Scholarship, the Asseo Foundation Scholarship and the Josette Kaufmann Scholarship. It has also supported the Ankor Children’s Choir, a 45- member youth choir founded in 1983 by Amon Meroz under the conservatory’s auspices. The choir represents the most talented young vocalists in the Jerusalem area and serves as a resident choir of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2003, the academy consolidated its three divisions on the Hebrew University Givat Ram campus and became known as the Jerusalem Academy of Music & Dance.
