About the project
Israel experienced a wave of immigration from the former Soviet Union in the early 1990s. In 1990 alone, approximately 150,000 Soviet immigrants arrived in Israel, 10,000 of whom settled in Jerusalem. The Jerusalem Foundation created a pool of funds in 1991 to support numerous projects to ease the absorption of these immigrants, including assistance to artists, musicians and theater groups, scholarships for students, apartment repairs, support for job re-training and subsidies for children to participate in after school and summer camp programs.
